Domestic Abuse Services – Our Lady of Good Counsel Society (DAS-OLGCS) is committed to protecting the privacy of our stakeholders who provide personal information to us. In our effort to remain responsible holders of this personal information, DAS OLGCS will provide transparency about how the information will be used and shared and will remain in compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act of British Columbia.
Personal information is any information which can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. Exceptions to this are business contact information and publicly available information. Personal information does not include the name, title, business, address, telephone number or other contact information of an individual at a place of business, which can be collected, used or disclosed without consent.
Accountability
Domestic Abuse Services – Our Lady of Good Counsel is responsible for all personal information it collects, maintains, shares and transfers to other institutions. Our Society values our supporters and we respect their privacy. We recognize we must maintain and protect our supporter’s personal information in a responsible manner and in compliance with the law.

Purpose of Use
Our website, www.DomesticAbuseServices.ca, is operated by Domestic Abuse Services – Our Lady of Good Counsel Society. When visiting our website, visitors may opt to use the website to sign up for various Society related activities including, but not limited to, signing up for newsletter and email communications, registering for events, submitting new or renewing memberships, applying for volunteer positions, or making donations. In doing so, they may be asked to complete a Gravity Form to collect contact information including name, address, phone and/or email. This information is used for the purpose of issuing tax receipts, sending newsletters, and disclosure of volunteer applications. We will not request personal data which is not necessary in the nature of the submission or request.
We do not rent, sell or trade our mailing lists.
DAS-OLGCS restricts its collection of personal information, the internal distribution of personal information, and its external sharing of personal information, to the limited extent reasonably necessary for its purposes and programs. We are also entitled to collect, use and disclose personal information as required or permitted by applicable law, including the Personal Information Protection Act.
Consent and Collection
Before and at the time of collection of your personal information, your knowledge and consent (implicit or explicit – depending on the sensitivity of the circumstances) will be required. In addition to issuing tax receipts, this information may be used to keep you informed about our Society’s activities including special events, funding needs, services, and opportunities to volunteer or to give. Your information may be shared within the Society for the purpose of review of volunteer applications by necessary staff or Members of the Board. Likewise, we will offer you the opportunity to opt not to have your information used for these purposes, and you are always given the option to withdraw your consent and opt not to receive this type of material from us. Limited Use, Disclosure and Retention
We may collect, use, store and transfer different kinds of personal information about you as follows:
- Identity Personal information includes:
- user name or similar identifier,
- first name, last name, title, company you work for, and in the case of individuals representing charities using our service, your job title, role and/or level of experience.
- Contact Personal information includes address, email address and telephone numbers.
- Financial Personal information includes credit card details and securities related information in the event you donate or apply for membership to Domestic Abuse Services – Our Lady of Good Counsel. We use a secure third party transaction form via PayPal for transacting online payments. Please refer to their privacy policy statement for how your personal data will be collected and used by them.
- Transaction Personal information includes details about payments to you (refunds) and from you (donations).
We do not collect any Special Categories of Personal information about you (this includes details about your race or ethnicity, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life, sexual orientation, political opinions, trade union membership, information about your health, and genetic and biometric information). Nor do we collect any information about criminal convictions and offences. In the event you fill out an application for a volunteer position, you may be requested to apply for a police record check and disclose of prior convictions or offences; in the event, you may opt out of providing such information by withdrawing your application to volunteer.
If you provide DAS-OLGCS with personal information of another individual, you represent that you have obtained all necessary consents from such person to enable us to collect, use and disclose such personal information for the purposes set forth in this Privacy Policy.
We will only retain your Personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting or reporting requirements. We may retain your Personal information for a longer period in the event of a complaint or if we reasonably believe there is a prospect of litigation in respect to our relationship with you.
You will not receive marketing e-mail from us unless you have consented to receive it. From time to time, we may use e-mail as a way to keep in touch with you. However, we do not send unsolicited marketing e-mail except in compliance with applicable law.
If you agree to receive e-mail communications from us, every e-mail message we send to you will include an e-mail address to which you can respond. If at any time you decide you do not want to receive e-mail from us, simply let us know and we will remove your name and e-mail address from our database. We will do the same with your mailing address and telephone number on request.
Accuracy
We will strive to keep your personal information as accurate and up-to-date as necessary.
Safeguarding Measures
We are committed to keeping the personal information provided to us secure and we will take reasonable precautions to protect personal information from loss, misuse or alteration.
We have implemented information security policies, rules and technical measures that are intended to protect the personal information that we have under our control from:
- unauthorized access;
- improper use or disclosure;
- unauthorized modification; and
- unlawful destruction or accidental loss.
Safeguards will vary depending on the sensitivity of the information and may include measures such as password-protecting electronic documents, locking paper files and ensuring only authorized personnel have access to certain documents. We will destroy documents (including electronic documents) containing personal information when retention of the personal information no longer serves the purpose for which it was collected and is no longer necessary for legal or business purposes.
All of our members, employees, workers and personal information processors (i.e. those who process your personal information on our behalf, for the purposes listed above), who have access to, and are associated with, the processing of personal information, are obliged to respect the confidentiality of the personal information we collect.
