Susan Schembri
Treasurer, Domestic Abuse Services OLGCS
Professional Background
Susan has been an active member of the Board of Directors of The Domestic Abuse Society since 2014. She previously served as Volunteer Coordinator and since 2018 she has served as Treasurer. In addition to her governance role, Susan supports fundraising committee events and assists with interviews for new applicants for Eva’s House.
Susan graduated from UBC with the Fellowship of the Institute of Canadian Bankers and retired as a Senior Risk Manager after 48 years with CIBC. She brings deep experience in oversight, accountability, and long-term planning—skills that help strengthen the Society’s sustainability and day-to-day operations.
Community Involvement
Born in Malta, Susan migrated to Toronto in her late teens and later made her home in the Vancouver area, where she met her husband. Together they have two adopted daughters and two grandchildren.
Susan has a strong passion for supporting people who are marginalized and in need. She is deeply involved in her parish, All Saints in Coquitlam, where she has served in leadership roles including President and other positions on the parish CWL council, as well as six years on the Diocesan Council, with her last role held as Spiritual Convener.
Susan also cares deeply about helping Maltese living abroad stay connected and informed. She served two terms (six years total) on the Council for Maltese Living Abroad, travelling to Malta annually for meetings with the Foreign Ministry to discuss the needs and challenges of the Maltese diaspora. She holds dual citizenship and maintains contact with dignitaries as needed.
Susan is happy to serve on the Board and to be part of the continued growth of the Society.
