Annual General Meeting

On May 27th, we held our annual general meeting at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Centre to share our achievements and progress in 2025.  
Chaired by board director, Angel Figueroa, members were treated to the following:

1.  St. Robert Park of the RCMP educated attendees on how the RCMP has evolved its approach and support for encountering domestic abuse (now known as Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)). 
The RCMP views these situations much more deeply and seriously because officers have received more in-depth training when dealing with the various complexities in these situations. 
St. Park shared that we tend to think only about the impact on the partner or the family, while the impact extends further into the local community, societal impact, and the need for greater long term mental health services such as ongoing counselling. 
Simply looking at removing those in danger is only the beginning of a much lengthier recovery process.  The victims and their loved ones must rebuild their lives which includes long term housing options, counselling, life skills, employment options, and continued support. 

2.  Ian MacDonald updated attendees on our continued progress regarding the strategic plan, Eva’s House and our Helpline.  Volunteer involvement was a key theme throughout the presentations, highlighting all the various opportunities for involvement.  

3.  2026 Board of Directors elections. We are pleased to announce the following additions to our Board of Directors: Christina Radziejewski and Chris Chen.  We look forward to their positive contributions in a variety of areas including fundraising and communications.
